A campaign to protect Irish biodiversity and wild acres
Green Sod Ireland was established in 2006 in response to rapid loss of land. to protect and conserve Irish land in perpetuity, for the sake of its indigenous inhabitants: animals, plants, soils, rocks, micro-organisms and the like for their own sake, for present and future generations. Over these years we have been gifted in excess of 100 acres by visionary individuals and communities, in Counties Galway, Cork, Carlow, Donegal, Mayo and Cavan.
Gifted land needs first and foremost to be appraised by our ecologists who complete an initial ecology report with findings and recommendations. The diversity of land across Ireland means individual management plans are created to address the specific needs of each.
We work with local communities, raising awareness of the health, educational, social, economic and environmental benefits of caring for the land and its biodiversity. The local community participate in the protection of land, and are invited to engage in our ecological education initiatives. We believe communities are an integral part of holding this land in trust together.
Our vision is of Ireland as a country where ecosystems are thriving and flourishing
For this vision to flourish we need your support.
This day next week, December 2nd, we will be launching our Save A Sod initiative. Save A Sod is a new way to contribute and commit to protecting Irish Biodiversity. This campaign acknowledges that plants, land, animals, watersheds, and humans are all interconnected, forming a web of life, the survival of one depends upon the other.
We are asking you to please help us in our work by ‘Saving a Sod’ of Ireland.
Funds donated will be used to protect the land in trust.
How to contribute
From €25 you can protect a Sod of Irish land for one year.
Contributors who save one sod will receive a Digital Cert to acknowledge their donation. Those who save more than one Sod will receive a beautiful Letterpress Certificate. The certificate is hand-made by Dublin Letterpress Studio ‘One Strong Arm’ using card made from recycled coffee cups and printed with ecological ink.

“Look closely at nature. Every species is a masterpiece, exquisitely adapted to the particular environment in which it has survived. Who are we to destroy or even diminish biodiversity?”
